Kingdom Come:
Senior BFA Couture Collection

Spring ‘21

In order to elevate and communicate the pure beauty and character of the Biblical Heaven,  this collection was created with a focus upon hand craftsmanship and surface detailing. The eight final, evening wear looks both depict the splendor of the Christian faith’s Heaven and remind of the beauty that lies within slow fashion, craft, and handwork. The collection was designed and created starting in August 2020 and completed in March of 2021. Seven of the eight looks were selected to be presented in the KSU Annual Fashion Show in April 2021.

Additionally, and honors thesis paper was written in order to more deeply explore the opportunities for the employment of artisans and promotion of slow fashion and craftsmanship at the designer market level.

Artisan Training and Collaboration

The partnership with the women artisans of the Greater Akron Hindu Sewa Samittee (GAHSS) was crucial to the thesis exploration of this project. The artisans were trained in the skills of beading and embroidery over the course of 4 training sessions and then were hired to recreate embroidery motifs on some of the final garments for the collection.
